2008 Granville Graduate Sarah Steves receives flight scholarship

Eighteen year old Sarah Steves of Granville has already begun her pursuit of a career in aviation and is attending Daniel Webster College in Nashua, New Hampshire this fall.  Meanwhile she is diligently working towards her Private Pilot Certificate.

On Friday June 13, members of the Vermont Chapter of the International Flying Farmers met at the Argyle Airport to present student pilot Sarah with a $1,000 scholarship towards her aviation career.  The check was presented by chapter president Jan Burleson in the company of treasurer Les Burleson, Secretary Davene Brown and members Jerry Brown and Gail MacDonald.  Present from Argyle Airport were Dick Bovey, Kyle Hartman, Mike Alexander, Conrad Grillo and Walt Southworth who was our photographer for the occasion.

Created over sixty years ago as a family oriented organization, the International Flying Farmers is comprised of chapters across the United States and Canada whose goal is to promote agriculture and aviation through various activities including educational programs, chapter and international conventions, safety clinics, workshops and tours and scholarships for education or flight training for our youth.  The Vermont chapter is pleased to present its scholarship this year to Sarah.

As a student pilot, Sarah flies with Kyle Hartman, flight instructor for Argyle, and Dick Bovey, Argyle Airport owner.  She will complete her training in mid July and will then be eligible to take her private pilot check ride for her certificate.  Sarah has been flying a donated Cessna 150 (N6299A) owned by Don Latterell of Queensbury for her flight training.  Over the past 24 years Don has owned this plane, he has donated it to his niece Shannon (who is now a flight instructor in Florida), also to Kevin the son of a long time friend Sarge VanKeuren and to several other friends for their flight training, with Sarah being the most recent recipient of his generosity.  Other local people have also contributed to make it possible for Sarah to earn her certificate before leaving for Daniel Webster College this fall.
